How to Use Your SkillsFuture Credits for AI Training

Step-by-step guide to using SkillsFuture credits for AI courses in Singapore. Check your balance, find approved courses, and claim subsidies.

AI Academy 19 February 2026

SkillsFuture credits are one of the best perks of being a Singaporean — free money for professional development. And with AI becoming essential in virtually every job, using those credits for AI training is one of the smartest moves you can make in 2026.

But navigating the SkillsFuture system isn’t always straightforward. Which courses qualify? How much credit do you have? What’s the process? This guide walks you through everything, step by step.

What Are SkillsFuture Credits?

If you’re a Singapore Citizen aged 25 and above, you receive SkillsFuture credits from the government to spend on approved training courses. Here’s the current breakdown:

  • Initial credit: S$500 (given to all eligible Singaporeans at age 25)
  • Top-ups: The government has issued additional top-ups over the years
    • S$500 top-up in 2020 (for those aged 25+ at that time)
    • Additional S$4,000 for Singaporeans aged 40–60 (Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy)
  • Expiry: Credits expire on 31 December 2025 for some earlier allocations — check your account to confirm your balance

How to Check Your SkillsFuture Credit Balance

  1. Go to MySkillsFuture
  2. Log in with your SingPass
  3. Click on your profile → “SkillsFuture Credit”
  4. You’ll see your total available balance and expiry dates

Many Singaporeans are surprised to find they have S$500–$1,000 or more sitting unused. Don’t let it expire — AI training is one of the highest-ROI uses for these credits.

Finding SkillsFuture-Approved AI Courses

Not all AI courses qualify for SkillsFuture credit claims. The course must be listed on the SkillsFuture course directory and offered by an SSG-approved training provider.

How to Search for AI Courses

  1. Visit the SkillsFuture course directory
  2. Search for keywords like:
    • “Artificial Intelligence”
    • “AI for business”
    • “ChatGPT”
    • “Prompt engineering”
    • “Generative AI”
    • “Machine learning”
  3. Filter by “SkillsFuture Credit Eligible”
  4. Sort by ratings and reviews

Types of AI Courses Available

You’ll find a range of AI courses on the platform:

Awareness-level courses (S$200–$500)

  • AI basics and concepts
  • Introduction to ChatGPT and generative AI
  • AI for business leaders
  • Great for absolute beginners who want to understand what AI is

Applied skills courses (S$500–$2,000)

  • Hands-on AI tool usage
  • Prompt engineering
  • AI for specific industries (marketing, finance, HR)
  • Best for professionals wanting to use AI in their current job

Technical courses (S$2,000–$8,000)

  • Python for AI
  • Machine learning and deep learning
  • Data science with AI
  • Best for those wanting to build AI applications or switch careers

Which Type Should You Choose?

For most working professionals, applied skills courses offer the best value. You learn to actually use AI tools in your daily work without needing to become a programmer. If you’re not sure, start with an awareness course and progress to applied skills.

The Claim Process: Step by Step

Here’s exactly how to use your SkillsFuture credits for an AI course:

Step 1: Find and Enrol in a Course

  • Search the SkillsFuture course directory as described above
  • Contact the training provider to confirm available dates and slots
  • Register for the course through the provider’s website or in person

Step 2: Submit Your SkillsFuture Credit Claim

  1. Log in to MySkillsFuture with SingPass
  2. Go to “Submit SkillsFuture Credit Claim”
  3. Search for your specific course and training provider
  4. Enter the course details (date, fee amount)
  5. Specify how much credit you want to use
  6. Submit the claim

Important: You must submit your claim before the course start date or within the claim window specified by the training provider.

Step 3: Pay Any Remaining Balance

If the course fee exceeds your available SkillsFuture credit, you’ll need to pay the difference out of pocket or through other funding sources. Some employers will co-fund the balance for professional development.

Step 4: Attend and Complete the Course

Attend all required sessions and complete any assessments. If you don’t complete the course, your SkillsFuture credit claim may be voided, and you’ll need to pay the full fee.

Step 5: Receive Confirmation

After course completion, the training provider submits confirmation to SSG. Your credit claim is finalised, and you’ll see the deduction in your SkillsFuture account.

Additional Subsidies You Might Not Know About

SkillsFuture credits are just one piece of the puzzle. Here are other subsidies that can stack:

Course Fee Subsidies

SSG provides base course fee subsidies of up to 70% for many approved courses. This is applied before your SkillsFuture credits, meaning your credits go further.

Example:

  • Course fee: S$2,000
  • SSG subsidy (70%): -S$1,400
  • Nett fee: S$600
  • Your SkillsFuture credit: -S$500
  • You pay: S$100 for a $2,000 course

Enhanced Subsidies for Mid-Career Professionals

If you’re aged 40 and above, you may qualify for:

  • Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES): Up to 90% course fee funding
  • Additional SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career): Extra S$4,000 in credits

Absentee Payroll for Employers

If your employer sends you for training, they can claim Absentee Payroll funding from SSG — essentially a subsidy for the time you spend in training. This means there’s a financial incentive for your company to support your AI upskilling.

SFEC (SkillsFuture Enterprise Credit)

Employers receive S$10,000 in Enterprise Credit to support employee training. If your company hasn’t used this, your AI training could be partially or fully covered.

Where Does AI Academy Stand with SkillsFuture?

We want to be completely transparent: AI Academy is not yet an SSG-approved training provider. We’re currently in the process of obtaining ACLP (Accredited Continuing Learning Provider) certification.

What this means for you:

  • You cannot currently use SkillsFuture credits for AI Academy courses
  • Our courses are not eligible for SSG course fee subsidies at this time
  • We’re working to change this and expect to have an update in the coming months

Why We’re Telling You This

We’d rather be honest than have you show up expecting to claim credits. Many training providers are vague about their accreditation status — we’re not. If using SkillsFuture credits is essential for your decision, we recommend checking the SSG-approved providers listed in the course directory.

That said, our courses offer something many SSG-approved courses don’t: truly hands-on, small-cohort training focused on practical AI tool usage rather than theory. Many of our students choose us specifically because they want the practical approach, even without the subsidy.

Once we receive SSG accreditation, our courses will be eligible for both SkillsFuture credits and course fee subsidies, making them significantly more accessible.

Maximising Your SkillsFuture Credits for AI Learning

Here’s our suggested approach for getting the most value:

The Stackable Approach

  1. Start free: Take Google AI Essentials or Coursera’s “AI for Everyone” (free to audit) to build foundational knowledge
  2. Use credits for applied training: Spend your SkillsFuture credits on a hands-on, SSG-approved AI course that teaches you to use tools in your job
  3. Complement with practical courses: Consider additional training like AI Academy’s courses for deeper hands-on skills and the AI Employee framework
  4. Claim your Budget 2026 tools: After completing a qualifying course, claim your 6 months of free AI tools

Don’t Let Credits Expire

Check your account for any credits approaching expiry. AI courses are among the most future-proof investments you can make with these credits. Even if you’re not sure exactly how AI fits into your work yet, a foundational course will open your eyes to possibilities.

Consider Corporate Backing

Talk to your HR department about AI training. With SFEC and Absentee Payroll available, there’s financial incentive for your company to support your learning. Our corporate training page has resources you can share with your manager.

Common Questions

Can I use SkillsFuture credits for online AI courses?

Yes, as long as the online course is listed in the SkillsFuture course directory. Some Coursera and edX courses are eligible.

Can I split my credits across multiple AI courses?

Absolutely. You can use partial credits for one course and save the rest for another. This is a great strategy if you want to take a beginner course now and an advanced course later.

What happens if I fail or drop out?

If you don’t complete the course as required, the training provider may not submit the completion, and you’ll be liable for the full course fee. Your credits will not be deducted.

Can PRs use SkillsFuture credits?

SkillsFuture credits are for Singapore Citizens only. However, PRs may be eligible for other SSG subsidies on approved courses.

Take Action Today

AI skills are rapidly becoming essential across every industry in Singapore. Your SkillsFuture credits are a government investment in your future — use them wisely.
